Firefighters work to put out several fires in Colorado Springs overnight

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A few brush fires and a house fire all in one night made for a busy few hours for firefighters in Colorado Springs.

The first flames flared up around 11 p.m. near Chelton Road and S. Academy Boulevard. Crews were able to put out bushes that were on fire quickly before it spread.

About 30 minutes later, a couch caught fire inside a house at 2507 N. Corona Street. Two people were able to make it outside the home safely after trying to unsuccessfully extinguish the fire themselves. Firefighters say the home did not have working smoke detectors.

After that, a fire started at the bridge over Sand Creek along S. Academy Boulevard.

Finally, crews were able to put out a brush fire just south of the 2500 block of S. Academy Boulevard that burned about 2 acres.

The causes of the fires remain under investigation.
