CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two people including a child were killed in a trailer fire in the outskirts of Canon City Wednesday morning.

Authorities identified the victims as 4-year-old Erik Ek-Rivero and his father 30-year-old Pedro Pablo Ek-Rivero. Investigators believe the toxic effects of carbon monoxide and injuries sustained from "thermal injuries" resulted in their deaths.

Firefighters were called out to the 2800 block of Melvina Street around 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday. While on the way, they were updated there could be people trapped inside.

Authorities later confirmed the father and son were found dead inside the home.

The home was destroyed. The cause remains under investigation.
