A fatal crash closed the southbound lanes of I-25 near the Briargate exit overnight.

It happened around 3 a.m. Saturday. All lanes were back open about four hours later.

Two cars were involved. According to Colorado State Patrol, 34-year-old Terence Morin of Fountain was driving a 2014 Ford Edge when he reportedly collided with the back end of a 2003 Buick Regal.

Both cars rotated in the crash before coming to a stop. The drivers in both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts, however, the driver of the Buick was pronounced dead on scene. Morin was not injured.

Excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash.
