Family stops would-be thieves before drive-by shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs police were investigating a drive-by shooting that happened early Friday morning in a neighborhood in northeast Colorado Springs.

It happened around 4 a.m. on Interlaken Drive near East Woodmen Road and Austin Bluffs Parkway.

The homeowner told 11 News that she caught someone breaking into a car on the street, so someone inside the house went outside and told them to leave. About 5 minutes later, she said the suspects came back and shot at a car in the driveway.

The bullet went through the back window of the car and ricocheted, hitting the back passenger window. The homeowner said her kids were inside the home at the time.

Colorado Springs police said they do not have a good description of the suspects or the car they were in. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 719-444-7000.

Police said no one was inside the car when it was shot at, and no one was hurt.
