Equipment malfunction snarls traffic in the I-25 'gap'

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KKTV) - An equipment malfunction in the I-25 "gap" construction zone caused major traffic headaches for drivers Monday morning.

Crews planned to wrap up overnight road work near Castle Rock by 5 a.m., but the equipment issue whittled the interstate down to one lane just in time for the morning rush hour.

The closure was on the northbound side between Tomah Road and Plum Creek Parkway, but due to a crash near the Greenland exit, traffic backups at some points throughout the morning extended all the way to County Line Road.

CDOT said the lane closure was lifted just before 8 a.m.
