COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Highway 24 will be partially blocked into Wednesday afternoon as CDOT crews do emergency pothole repair work along the Fountain Creek bridge

The work started at 9 a.m. and is expected to go on until at least 1 or 2 p.m.. During the work, eastbound drivers heading away from 21st Street will experience varying lane closures. Though one lane will remain open, CDOT is urging drivers to avoid the highway and use alternate routes instead.

Wednesday's resurfacing work is part of an overall project to improve a 10-mile stretch of highway from 8th Street to Manitou Springs. The work consists of milling and paving, extending the turn lane at 21st Street and Highway 24, replacing guardrail, repairing at least four bridge structures, bridge scour prevention, improving drainage and adding erosion control, CDOT said in a news release Wednesday.
