CHICAGO (KKTV) - Four varieties of Duncan Hines' popular cake mixes have been recalled after Salmonella was detected in a sample of the white cake mix.
Officials say it could possibly be linked to a current Salmonella outbreak. Five people have reported falling ill with Salmonella, and some said they had consumed a cake mix at some point before getting sick. The CDC and FDA are investigating, and a definitive link between the outbreak and the Duncan Hines cake mixes has not been confirmed.
In response, Duncan Hines has pulled its Classic White, Confetti Cake, Butter Golden and Classic Yellow mixes from shelves. The affected products all have a "best if used by date" between March 7-13. Click here for more information on the recalled boxes.
If you find you have one of the affected boxes in your pantry, you are advised to return it to the store it was purchased from.
