Deceased person found at scene of car fire near La Junta

An investigation is underway after a person was found dead at the scene of a car fire southwest of La Junta Thursday.
The Otero County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a reported fire near the Timpas picnic area, and when getting there discovered it was a car on fire. After extinguishing the blaze, a person was found inside the charred vehicle.
The death is now under investigation.
Timpas is off of Highway 350 about 17 miles from La Junta.
