COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The finalist for Academy School District 20's superintendent position has withdrawn her candidacy, the district said Monday.

Dr. Kimberly Hough informed the D-20 Board of Education Sunday. The district released a short statement to families Monday morning:

"The Academy District 20 Board of Education (BOE) regrets to announce Dr. Kimberly Hough, the BOE’s recommended superintendent finalist, respectfully removed herself as the recommended candidate. Dr. Hough appropriately informed the BOE yesterday, during the official two-week waiting period. The BOE, along with its contracted hiring firm HYA, will meet this Thursday to discuss next steps.

'While this is a surprising turn of events, we remain confident we will find an outstanding educator to successfully lead our organization as superintendent,' said Tracey Johnson, Academy District 20 BOE president.
