A cyclist was killed after veering into the path of an oncoming F-350 Tuesday morning.

State Patrol says 74-year-old Bill Pearce of El Paso, Texas was riding in the shoulder on Highway 285 but went into the northbound lane and was hit by the truck. Pearce was reportedly thrown from his bike and landed 140 feet away. He was wearing a helmet, but his injuries were too severe to survive.

The driver, 60-year-old Arthur Walker of Rensselaer, Indiana, was not hurt.

State Patrol says improper turning in front of traffic is considered a factor in the crash.

The crash was reported around 10 a.m. 5 miles north of Poncho Springs.
