Tiny homes will now be allowed in certain parts of El Paso County following the approval of changes to land use regulations by county commissioners on Tuesday.

According to realtor.com, a tiny home is typically between 100 and 400 square feet, rarely exceeding 500 square feet. While compared to mobile homes, they don't typically fit all of the requirements established for that category of housing.

Changes approved by the Board of County Commissioners will allow the placement of tiny homes in many El Paso County zones where residential housing is permitted as long as they meet certain safety, functionality and appearance requirements. Tiny homes that are either manufactured under American National Standards Institute (ANSI) RVIA standards or have received “sign-off approval” through a qualified engineer.
