Colorado woman killed when tree falls on tent
A female hiker was killed in Colorado's backcountry when a tree fell on her tent.
Beth Skelley, a 56-year-old from Lafayette, was camping with two other women on the Colorado Trail Monday night when the accident happened. Her friends were unharmed and caled for help; Skelley was airlifted to a hospital in Durango but did not survive.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office said the group was camping just under Grizzly Peak.
"This a shockingly stark reminder that no matter how safe your actions, the mountains are inherently dangerous," the sheriff's office wrote on their Facebook page.
There's no word on why the tree fell.
