STERLING, Colo. (KKTV) - An inmate was stopped with a bullet after he allegedly tried to flee a courtroom Wednesday.
Authorities say Brian Estrada, 29, was scheduled to appear at a hearing Wednesday morning concerning a criminal charge but tried to escape and was shot by Colorado Department of Corrections officer. Estrada was injured and taken to the hospital in Sterling, where the courthouse was located, then later moved to Denver Health Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
The Logan County courthouse was reportedly closed for the remainder of the day.
Estrada is accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer earlier this year and has previous robbery convictions out of Pueblo County.
The officer who shot him is on paid administrative leave, which is routine during officer-involved shooting investigations.
