Colorado Springs welcome sign gets modern upgrade
The welcome sign greeting drivers on the northern side of the city near Northgate, is getting a face lift. The President and CEO of Visit COS told 11 News the upgrades come four years after the city re-branded to Olympic City USA.
The new design is meant to compliment the Olympic museum being built and have a modern take. The sign project has been in the works since March 2019. Visit COS President and CEO, Doug Price says the new design is a friendly welcome and homage to the city's new brand.
Price says the project has been long awaited, because they were waiting for the money to be able to build it. He says all of the money came from private donations, so no taxpayer dollars were used.
The construction of the project will take about four weeks to complete.
Price tells 11 News he hopes they can add more signs around the city, like this one. The next desired location would be at the airport to welcome travelers.
As for the upside down "N" on the current sign, Price says that will be fixed on the new one.
The project is expected to be complete by October 11th.
