PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Authorities say the victim of a stolen vehicle spotted his truck and helped track down a suspected criminal in Pueblo County on Wednesday.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office was called to an area of Highway 78 West and Water Barrel Road at about 10:40 in the morning after a man reported seeing his stolen truck. The area is southwest of Pueblo. The victim stated his truck was stolen from a home on Clark Street in Pueblo.

The victim was able to follow his own stolen vehicle when he saw the suspect drive through a barbed wire fence and into an open field where he lost sight of it.

Deputies were able to find the stolen truck, unoccupied, near a building in the 6000 block of Water Barrel Road. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and verbal orders were given for the suspect to surrender.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says after a few minutes 47-year-old Dominic Atencio came out from some thick brush. He was arrested for motor vehicle theft, trespass and criminal mischief. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from Douglas County for aggravated motor vehicle theft. He was booked into Pueblo County Jail.
