Colorado Springs Police make arrest in sex assault case, possibility of more victims
Colorado Springs Police believe there could be other potential victims in a sex assault case stemming back to 2016. Police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Jason Emanuelson on Nov. 22.
Police originally chose to not release the mugshot of Emanuelson stating, "We are unable to release the mugshot of Emanuelson at this time to ensure the integrity of potential future identifications." On Thursday, police released his photo publicly.
Police started investigating in October after reports of sexual assaults involving students enrolled at The Classical Academy came in. Detectives were able to identify more victims and gather enough evidence to arrest Emanuelson.
Emanuelson was a senior at The Classical Academy during the 2015-2016 school year.
According to arrest papers obtained by 11 News, two women who were around 15-years old at the time of the alleged crimes claim they were raped by Emanuelson who was 18.
The court documents allege in both separate cases, Emanuelson took the girls into a darkened computer lab inside the school and forced them to have sex.
After the crimes were reported, investigators recorded calls made by the women to the suspect.
In one call, one victim asks, "Did you know what you did was rape her and me?" and the suspect allegedly responded, "Looking back at it now, yes, but at the time, no."
In another emotional phone call with a second victim, she asks, "Can I understand why you thought it was okay to rape me?" and Emanuelson reportedly replied, "Nothing was going through my mind. I can't... I wish I had an answer."
According to arrest papers, Emanuelson said he works at New Life Church in Colorado Springs which is where police took him into custody.
A call to the suspect has not been returned.
