EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - The cause of a single-vehicle crash where a child was injured and the driver has life-threatening injuries is under investigation.
The crash happened just before 4:45 p.m. along Highway 94 near Yoder Road in El Paso County. The area is east of Colorado Springs between Ellicott and Rush.
Master Trooper Gary Cutler with Colorado State Patrol tells 11 News an 8-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle, according to authorities first arriving on scene. They found the child was walking around with a head injury. The child was taken by ambulance to the hospital. 11 News spoke with officials on scene who said it wasn't clear if the child was thrown from the vehicle or if she got out on her own before they got there.
The driver was unresponsive and had life-threatening injuries. The driver was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
The vehicle struck a power pole off the road. Utility crews were called out because the power lines were a hazard.
