The death of a 9-year-old girl in the Hotel Elegante swimming pool has prompted a review of their pool policies, the general manager said Monday.

Police identified the girl as Yevaeh Patrick-Moon and are asking for any witnesses to call 719-444-7000.

Ed Okvath, who spoke to our news partners at The Gazette, said his heart went out to the family.

"It's a tragedy."

Yevaeh was swimming with at least one other person on Saturday night when she began to struggle. Staff and guests at Hotel Elegante had already pulled the little girl from the pool by the time officers arrived Saturday night and were trying to revive her. Firefighters soon got to the scene and took over the life-saving efforts.

Yevaeh died shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

Okvath told The Gazette the person accompanying the child to the pool was not a parent or guardian and stressed that children need to be monitored when swimming.

"They came to the pool by themselves and went swimming," he said.

Like most hotel pools, there is no lifeguard on duty.

Hotel Elegante is located on Circle Drive near I-25.
