Care and Share's 2017 'Hunger's Hope' award winners

A community coming together to help keep southern Colorado families fed deserves some recognition!

Care and Share announced the fifth annual "Hunger's Hope" award winners on Tuesday. The awards showcase community supporters who help Care and Share with financial support to bridge the gap between hunger and abundance.

Care and Share is the only food bank in a 31-county region of southern Colorado. The organization has been feeding families since 1974 and serves as the hub for food distribution to 295 partner agencies.

The honorees for 2017:

Pikes Peak Workforce Center

partnership began in 2002 when they donated 1,096 pounds of assorted food. During their last Job Fair in 2016, they helped us to acquire more than 12,000 meals!

Cypress Semiconductor Colorado

: There are some businesses in our community that go far outside their scope of services to make a positive difference in the world. Cypress has donated more than 550,000 meals since 2013.

Security Service Federal Credit Union

: For more than 20 years, Security Service Federal Credit Union has worked with us to alleviate hunger in our local communities. Their dedicated employees have provided more than a 200,000 meals to our Southern Colorado neighbors.

National Association of Letter Carriers – Branch #204

: The NALC is the chief organizer of the nation’s largest one-day food drive in the nation – Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, which has resulted in nearly half-a-million meals at Care and Share.

Colorado Farm to Table

: In 2016, Colorado Farm to Table provided nearly 145,000 pounds of fresh produce, resulting in nearly 121,000 meals.

Sally Sparhawk and Anne Gartin

: Sally and Anne, along with their friends and family, have provided more than 148,000 pounds of food; the equivalent of 118,000 meals.

Mark Ingles

: Mark decorates his house for the holiday season and has turned it into an opportunity to collaborate with Care and Share. This past holiday season, food collected weighed nearly 700 pounds.

Peregrine Loop Turkey Trot

: Since 2014, neighbors in the Peregrine neighborhood have organized an event where they have donated nearly 7,000 pounds of food after their Thanksgiving Day event.

Loaf ‘N Jug

: In 2014, Loaf ‘N Jug became a leader in our agency empowerment program. Presently, 46 locations are participating in this very important program which has yielded more than 266,000 pounds of food.
