SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KKTV) - Firefighters had a close call on a high fire danger morning when a car caught fire on the road.
The fire was reported around 8:20 on Bradley Road near Powers Boulevard. Thick smoke was visible for several miles. The fire soon spread from the vehicle to the grass in the median, burning several yards before firefighters could extinguish.
Firefighters had the flames under control just minutes after receiving the report.
Due to a combination of dry vegetation and windy weather, a Red Flag warning has been issued along the I-25 corridor and eastern plains from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Do not burn anything outside and practice common sense fire safety. Several fires have been started in recent days, including one started from target shooting and another from likely from a cigarette tossed out a car window.
