Car break-in suspect rams into police car during getaway

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Officers are looking for Daniel Lowell after they say he rammed a cop car in the Pike's Peak Community College campus just off of S. Academy.

Police were watching for him after catching him in his tan truck with Oklahoma plates stealing credit cards and purses out of other people's cars. Officers say he then goes across the street to the Walmart and buys gift cards with the credit cards.

Today officer's spotted his truck, and were able to box him in, but police say Lowell reversed into them, and then took off driving across a field on campus.

Police said the officer who was hit tried to stop him, but it got dangerous.

“Initially the he pulled his weapon because he intended to hit him, looked at the background and decided not to fire any shots, just because it was unsafe to do so at the time," Chief of Pike’s Peak Community College Police James Barrentine said.

"So the pursuit started, and the officer followed them as far as they could.”

No one was hurt in the crash.

Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office helped multiple different law enforcement agencies trying to track down Lowell, but lost him.

If you have any idea where he might be or have seen that truck, you should call police.
