CSPD recovers illegal narcotics worth more than $186K

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) Springs police recovered several firearms and hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics Saturday.

Officers found the haul after arresting two wanted men.

The police department says one of its Gang Unit detectives was tipped off that the suspects were in the area of 2500 E. Platte Place. One of the suspects, later identified as 29-year-old Caleb Collins, was spotted walking in the area after police set up surveillance and was taken into custody right away.

Two people with Collins tried running off. Officers caught and detained one of them, who was later released.

While dealing with that person, a vehicle suddenly sped off. Additional officers were responding to the scene as the vehicle drove away and narrowly avoided being hit

Police were told that the person behind the wheel had several guns and lot of drugs. Officers chased after the car, eventually cornering him on a dead end street. Police say the suspect ran into a nearby apartment to hide, but after realizing he was surrounded, came outside and turned himself in. He has been identified as David Rivera, 36.

Police say they recovered five firearms, over 1 pound of meth and 5.9 grams of marijuana. The drugs were worth over $186,000.

Rivera faces charges for drugs and illegally carrying guns as a previous offender. Collins was arrested on an existing felony warrant.
