COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death after a man's body was found behind a Colorado Springs community center.
Officers were called to the Deerfield Hills Community Center just before 9:30 Saturday morning.
“It was a citizen who found what they believed to be a body," said Lt. Jim Sokolik with the Colorado Springs Police Department. "... Both medical and police responded to that. Medical on scene located a body which was pronounced deceased on scene.”
Law enforcement is now trying to figure out how the man died.
"It appears this death has occurred, at least preliminarily, has occurred out in a public area on a field. There's a tremendously large area," Sokolik said.
The community center, located near Hancock and Academy, is surrounded by large fields. Detectives with CSPD's Major Crimes Unit blocked the area off Saturday and could also be seen sifting through trash cans for evidence. The community center is closed on Saturdays.
"It's very much in the early portions of the investigation ... really just trying to determine the nature of what has occurred here," Sokolik said.
The man's age and identity have not been released. An autopsy is pending.
