UPDATE: Liquor store clerk killed during robbery ID'd
The clerk killed during an armed robbery at a liquor store last week has been identified.
Donat Herr, 67, died from a gunshot wound, the Police Department confirmed Wednesday.
The suspects have still not been located. Anyone with information is asked to call CSPD at 444-7000, or, to remain anonymous, call 634-STOP.
A robbery at a Colorado Springs liquor store turned deadly after the armed crooks pulled the trigger, shooting the clerk.
The clerk, identified only as a man in his late 60s, survived long enough to make it to the hospital, but died a short time later.
The robbery-turned-shooting was reported just minutes before midnight at a liquor store at the corner of North Carefree and North Academy. Police were called to the scene for an alarm and found the gravely injured clerk when they got to the store.
Investigators are still going through surveillance video, but CSPD Lt. Howard Black was able to confirm there were at least two suspects.
Black told 11 News the incident appeared to be random, though stressed the investigation was still in the very preliminary stages.
Shop owners in the immediate area told 11 News word of the shooting was "terrifying."
"You hear about something like that and it definitely makes you think. It's scary," said Vincent Prymus, the owner of Wade's Cafe across the street from the store.
"I usually keep our security as high as we can as far as making sure doors are locked and, you know, we have camera systems to make sure we see people coming ...but you can only do so much," he added.
