COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Everything happens for a reason. That's the feeling Trisen Ramos had after a trailer hitch broke through the windshield of her family's car on I-25 in Colorado Springs and landed in the spot she was originally trying to strap her child into.

The incident happened along I-25 close to Fillmore Street at about 1 p.m. Tristen told 11 News she normally puts her child's car seat in the middle, but on Thursday she decided to strap Avery on the passenger's side in the back because she couldn't reach the middle. That may have saved her child's life.

"The one time I put Avery’s car seat on the side by the door and not the middle a trailer hitch comes back and smashes our car," Tristen wrote on Facebook. "[The trailer hitch]Goes into the back where Avery’s car seat would have been!!!"

Tristen's husband was right next to her in the front. Thankfully no one was hurt, but this was too close for comfort.

Tristen has an open case with the Colorado Springs Police Department as she puts a request out to the public for help. She is hoping anyone who has any information on the driver of a white Ford F-250 that lost the trailer hitch can call police. If anyone does, they can contact Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000 and reference case number 19-29857.

Colorado Springs police confirmed with 11 News on Friday the case was still active.
