PUEBLO (KKTV) - Pueblo police are trying to figure out how a body ended up in Fountain Creek. It was found Friday around 11 am by a man who was in the creek. He noticed something floating in the water and then realized it was a body.
The Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to assist in removing the body from the water. The Coroner's Office was on scene as well and identified the body as a male. They did not have an age range as of Friday.
Pueblo police believe the body had been in the water for a little more than a week.
This is the third body found in the last two months in a waterway in Pueblo. Police say this is not something out of the ordinary for this time of year.
“This time of year there’s just a lot of water coming down from the mountains. And so there’s a lot of water coming through our rivers and so it’s dangerous if you get into the water," said Captain Kenny Rider, with the Pueblo Police Department.
He wants people to make sure they are being as safe as possible if they decide to get into the water. Captain Rider advises people to make sure they have the right equipment and safety gear because there is always the possibility of an accident.
When the coroner releases the name of the man found in Fountain Creek we will update this article.
