Cyclist seriously hurt by apparent boobytrap along Colorado Springs trail
A local cyclist has broken bones and massive bruises all because of an apparently booby-trapped bike trail.
The biker was just riding along the Rock Island Trail on the east side of Colorado Springs when he was launched right off his bike, full speed.
Nard Claar says he and a friend were just going along the trail when they went over a bridge. That's where he said a parachute cord was stretched across the trail.
His bike hit the makeshift tripwire, and he went flying.
Police are now searching for the person or people responsible, but the biker says this could have just been a couple of kids playing a prank. If it was a prank, he says they probably didn't understand just how dangerous a joke it was.
"I didn't know where I was at first, thank goodness that I was wearing a helmet because my helmet was shattered," Claar explained. "It’s a criminal act and a very violent act. If I wasn’t wearing a helmet or even if a little bit of different action with a helmet I could have been killed.”
Claar says he was knocked out for about 20 seconds after he hit the trap.
He says the first time he really understood what was going on was when he was in the hospital getting a cat scan.
