Colorado Springs police announced Thursday that a man has died after a car hit him while he was riding his bike.

Police said the crash happened Oct. 8 around 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of North Chelton Road and Chelton Circle, near Platte Avenue.

Officers said 62-year-old Craig Hanson was riding his bike in the southbound lane of Chelton Road when a car tried to turn in front of him.

Police said Hanson's bike hit the front fender of the car. Hanson was not wearing a helmet, according to officers.

He was taken to a hospital but died two days later, police said.

Officers said the driver of the car is facing a charge for careless driving resulting in death. Police said the driver was not under the influence of anything.

According to police, this is the 34th traffic death of 2019 and the second bicycle-related death.
