MONUMENT, Colo. (KKTV) - A standoff was taking place Wednesday night in Monument as deputies and police officers surrounded an apartment complex. A suspect was reportedly in custody by 10:50 p.m.

The suspect was publicly identified on Thursday as Alvin Robert Gooley.

A perimeter was set up around the Vistas at Jackson Creek Parkway Apartments near Jackson Creek Parkway and Leather Chaps Drive just east of the Walmart. Police say the call originally came in at about 9 p.m. for a welfare check but then in a second call there was a report of a man with a shotgun. Officers were also told that "Gooley was still acting wildly, still had the shotgun, and was continuing to make comments that he was going to kill others and himself."

Police say Gooley was in the apartment with another man and child. Ten other apartments were evacuated. Gooley eventually surrendered peacefully and there were no reported injuries.

Gooley is facing charges of felony menacing, possession of weapons by a previous offender and third-degree assault.
