An armed and dangerous burglar who shot a homeowner in Florence remains at large Wednesday morning.

People living in the area are encouraged to be on the lookout and to report anything suspicious.

The victim interrupted the suspect mid-burglary by walking back into the home while the crime was taking place Tuesday afternoon. Police say the suspect shot the victim and then fled the scene. The victim is expected to survive.

The incident occurred on Fremont County Road 119, which is also known to locals as the "river road." It runs parallel to Highway 115.

Neighbors said the area was swarming with law enforcement following the shooting.

"Just got home from work. Was pulling in, came across the bridge over by the Arkansas River and there was police everywhere. There was a helicopter. ... Some of the roads were blocked off," neighbor Nick Hudnall described to 11 News.

In the early stages of the manhunt, CR 119 was shut down and people living along the road were advised to lock their doors and stay inside. The road was reopened just before 8:30 Tuesday night.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans and has facial hair.

As of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, there were no new updates in the search. We will continue to add to this article as new information becomes available.
