COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A motorcyclist was killed Friday night after he missed a curve in the road and was thrown from his bike.
Police say the rider was part of a large group of motorcycles traveling southbound on Rangewood just after 9 p.m.
"Approaching Briargate Boulevard, he struck a right-hand curb. The driver was ejected from the vehicle," said Lt. Jim Sokolik with the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Sokolik said there was no indication the group of motorcyclists was speeding or racing prior to the crash.
"It's just unfortunate the gentleman struck the curb."
The rider's injuries were severe and he died before police reached the scene. He was reportedly wearing a helmet.
Friday's crash was the 23rd traffic fatality of 2019 in Colorado Springs and the fifth involving a motorcycle. There were 25 deadly crashes at this time last year.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the rider Monday as 31-year-old Jajuan Richardson of Fountain.
