Vigil to honor the memory of hit-and-run victim in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police have arrested the driver accused of hitting a pedestrian Wednesday night in Colorado Springs. Police say 44-year-old Christopher J. Seal was attempting to cross Academy when he was struck by a dark colored sedan. Police say he was not in the crosswalk.

A vigil was scheduled to honor Seal Friday night at 6:30 at N. Academy and Galley. Since 9/11 Seal has spent about 12 hours every Sept. 11 carrying an American flag to honor the lives lost and share his pride for America. A video of Seal by 11 News from this year is at the bottom of this article.

Police arrested 26-year-old Robert M. Valencia of Colorado Springs. He faces a felony charge of accidents involving death.

The crash happened just after 11 at night near Austin Bluffs and Academy.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Colorado Springs Crimestoppers at 634-7867.

This marks the 44th traffic death in Colorado Springs this year, which is a new record high for the city.
