A 31-year-old man was taken into custody hours after a deadly shooting in a home just south of Colorado Springs.

Emilio Espinoza is currently being held without bond in the El Paso County jail. The victim was identified on Wednesday as 24-year-old Alexsander Warfield.

"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Mr. Warfield," Jacqueline Kirby with the sheriff's office wrote updating the public on the case.

The sheriff's office says deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 4300 block of Lashelle Avenue just before 3 Friday afternoon and found a man dead inside a home. The neighborhood is located near B Street and Hampton Street.

Neighbors were on edge during the seven hours between the 911 call and the announcement of Espinoza's arrest.

"It's very scary to know, because our security doors here at the apartments are not too good," said Gage Durley, a father of two young children who lives in an apartment complex across the street from where the deceased was found. "So, don't know where the suspect could've ran. And, you know, hope everybody stays safe and hope they do find this individual that did this crime."

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced Espinoza was in custody just before 10 p.m.

Court records show Espinoza has pleaded guilty to assault robbery in the past and is currently facing charges from last summer for drugs and violating his parole.
