EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Charges against the father of a young boy shot last week have been elevated to first-degree murder after the child died from his injuries.

The little boy, identified as Roman Krutiskiy, was shot at the family's home in the 7700 block of Edison Road in eastern El Paso County on the afternoon of June 23. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said the parents took the child to the Yoder post office and called 911.
"When deputies arrived on scene they were flagged down by the parents of the juvenile. Life-saving measures were initiated and the juvenile was transported to the hospital by ambulance, then later by helicopter," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The child's injuries were life-threatening when he was airlifted to the hospital. On Monday, the sheriff's office confirmed he had passed away. He was just 6 years old.
"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Roman Krutitskiy," the sheriff's office said in a news release Monday afternoon.
The child's father, 34-year-old Nikolay Krutitskiy, faces the following charges in connection with the incident (upgraded from previous charges):
Murder in the first degree
Child abuse - caused death
Possession of weapon by previous offender
Child abuse (two counts)
Prohibited use of a weapon
Violation of a protection order
