Aurora, Colo. (CBS Denver) - Police have arrested a person who had a “suspected gun” inside Rangeview High School, according to Aurora’s police chief.
Police first responded to the school, located at 17599 East Iliff Avenue in Aurora, late Friday morning and the school was placed on lockdown.
The response came after a Snapchat image that police came across which showed a picture of what was believed to be a gun in someone’s waistband inside the school.
A weapon was found when the person was arrested, and police haven’t said if it was a loaded gun.
Police said the suspect is male but they didn’t reveal his age. They haven’t said whether the suspect is a student at Rangeview.
“We are in the process of clearing the school. We don’t believe there is a continued threat at this time,” Aurora spokeswoman Crystal McCoy said.
Security measures were also put into place at two other other nearby schools during the police action.
Several students who were outside of the school when the lockdown was put into place were evacuated to the King Soopers parking lot at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Buckley Road.
