Arrest made in dozen-year-old cold case

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - An arrest has been made in a 12-year-old cold case.

Jeffrey Brian Smith of Goodyear, Arizona was arrested late last month in the death of Remzi Nesfield, whose skeletal remains were found by a hiker in a remote part of Fremont County in 2016.

Nesfield was reported missing in 2007. The remains were confirmed to be his in 2017. A forensic examination revealed Nesfield had been shot in the head.

The Fremont County Sheriff's Office announced 37-year-old Smith's arrest on Monday. Smith remains in Arizona at this time of this writing awaiting extradition back to Colorado.
