2 arrested for armed robbery at Colorado Springs Safeway in the middle of the day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police in Colorado Springs arrested two people who allegedly robbed a Safeway pharmacy in the middle of the day back in February.

The crime happened just after 1 p.m. at the South Academy Safeway just to the west of Highway 115 on Feb. 20. Police say one of the suspects was armed with a handgun when he entered the store. The suspect reportedly jumped over the pharmacy counter and stole a number of drugs. Another suspect was waiting outside the store inside the vehicle. The two escaped that day.

On Monday, police announced the arrests of 52-year-old Mark Von Smith and 38-year-old Rom Yous. They were taken into custody on Friday. Both are facing a charge of aggravated robbery of a controlled substance.

"Over the course of the investigation, numerous search warrants were executed at different locations, resulting in the recovery of multiple items of evidence including three handguns and more than 1,000 pills of controlled narcotics," Colorado Springs Police wrote in a release.
