Exercise Wednesday to simulate active-shooter incident on Fort Carson

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KKTV) - Fort Carson will be swarming with activity Wednesday as the post trains for an active shooter scenario.

People on and near the post can expect to hear gunfire and see a large number of first responders, including Flight For Life, ambulances and even a team from the FBI. All of this is part of the exercise, Fort Carson said.

The exercise will last several hours beginning at 9 a.m. and will be staged near the intersection of Barkeley Avenue and Hogan Street. Evans Army Community Hospital will play a large role in the exercise by caring for "victims," but Fort Carson says normal hospital operations will not be affected.

The exercise is intended to test the post's emergency response and recovery systems and capabilities in an active shooter scenario, Fort Carson said in a release Monday.
