COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A man accused on a laundry list of charges is behind bars after months on the run.
Zackary Burns made several appearances on our "Monday's Most Wanted" segment. He was finally captured last week with the help of a police dog.
Burns has seven active criminal cases, including ones for attempted murder and robbery. One of his alleged crimes is stealing a purse from a 72-year-old woman in May.
Mary Clemmens was in the Hobby Lobby parking lot near 8th and Cimarron. She says it all happened fast.
"I was walking towards my van and I heard footsteps running. ... The purse was snatched from my arm. It left a bruise on my arm."
She says the suspect got away with $550 in cash, her identification cards and medications.
"The worst part about it, I had my dad's picture in there, and I'll never be able to replace it," she told 11 News reporter Catherine Silver.
She said the ordeal itself was scary, but the aftermath was worse.
"I thought he was behind me at all times. ... I didn't sleep at all that night. I just kept thinking about him and thinking about him. ... I swear I thought I heard him in my house. He just demented my mind."
A victim in another case had her purse stolen from a funeral home. According to Burns' arrest papers, he allegedly used credit cards from that theft to rack up more than $1,000 in charges.
Prior to his arrest last week, court records say Burns would keep getting into trouble, and then when he was caught, would get out of jail and miss court dates.
He's currently being held in the El Paso County Jail on a $250,000 bond, and Clemmens hopes this time he stays there to face a judge.
"He cannot do this to people and get away with it," she told Silver.
