A driver accused of seriously injuring a man and fleeing the scene was caught by a state trooper one day later.

Thirty-four-year-old David Laurel, of Avondale, was out with a group late Friday night, walking along the right shoulder on eastbound Highway 50-C in Pueblo County. State Patrol says Laurel walked into the right lane of the highway and was hit by an oncoming SUV. The SUV then kept going.

Laurel was transported to Parkview Medical Center and later Denver Health with life-threatening injuries.

Saturday, a trooper tracked down the alleged driver, identified as 59-year-old Mark Steir of Pueblo. Charges against Steir are pending. He has not been arrested until the investigation is complete.
