Alcohol a possible factor in deadly Colorado Springs crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Investigators believe a man was under the influence of alcohol when he ran a red light and in Colorado Springs and caused a crash in late October.

The crash happened on Oct. 27 at S. Chelton Road and Airport Road. According to Colorado Springs Police 32-year-old Mark Melvin ran a red light driving a truck southbound on S. Chelton Road and was hit broadside by a westbound vehicle.

Melvin was taken to the hospital and was being treated for more than a week before he died on Thursday. The other vehicle involved was occupied by three people. All three of those people are expected to be okay.

No charges are expected for the driver of the car that struck Melvin's truck. Melvin's death marks the 47th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs for 2018.
