2 arrested for attempted murder in Cañon City, victim shot in the heart by a pellet gun

CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - Police arrested two people for attempted murder after the victim was reportedly shot in the heart by a pellet gun and beaten with a baseball bat.

Cañon City Police were called to the 200 block of West Catlin Ave. on Monday at about 11:50 in the morning. Officers learned there had been a fight. The 24-year-old victim was reportedly beaten with an air rifle and a baseball bat. The victim was having trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital.

It was later determined the victim was shot with a pellet gun and the pellet had "lodged in his heart." The victim was flown by helicopter to a Colorado Springs hospital. He was last listed in "critical but stable condition."

Lane Peeples, 21, and Cody Butcher, 20, were both arrested.

11 News has requested their mugshots and more information.

Peeples is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, menacing, child abuse and conspiracy. It isn't clear why he is facing child abuse charges, police did not elaborate in their release sent out on Tuesday.

Butcher is facing attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy.
