COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs police say a 1-year-old boy who was taken by his mother was found safe. Both were found in Arizona.

The mother, 19-year-old Dionicia Miranda, does not have custody of her son.

According to officers, the mother is accused of taking the toddler from his court-ordered home in the 2500 block of Mount Vernon Street near North Union and Palmer Park boulevards in east Colorado Springs.

Police spoke on why no Amber Alert has been issued, stating the criteria has not been met.

“Through the investigation, we have no information to indicate the child’s life is in danger," said Sgt. John Garza with the Colorado Springs Police Department. "There are no medical issues again to show that the child’s health is at risk. Also, we don’t have enough information for the public’s assistance to release at this point for their assistance in recovery of the child.”

The mother is now facing a felony custody violation charge.

“It can be very scary not knowing where the child is at, not knowing what’s going on with the child or why the mother took the child," Garza elaborated. "Of course, as members of the police department, we are actively searching. We are following up with leads, what we can do to locate the child and the mother.”
