1 killed, 2 hurt after SUV collides head-on into semi

SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A 73-year-old man is dead after crashing his SUV head-on into a semi-truck Friday afternoon.

According to State Patrol, the victim was traveling south on Highway 285 when he veered into the northbound lanes right in the path of the oncoming semi. The truck driver saw the SUV and tried to avoid a collision but was unable to get out of the way in time.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene. He has not been identified. A 73-year-old passenger survived the crash and was last reported to be in stable condition. Her injuries were described as serious.

The truck driver was only identified as a 32-year-old man. He sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The collision happened about 11 miles north of Monte Vista.

State Patrol says speeding may have been a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
