1 found dead in reported shooting in Canon City; police investigating as self-defense

CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - A deadly shooting in Canon City is being investigated as an act of self-defense.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of West New York Avenue just before 9:15 Monday morning on reports. They reportedly found one man bleeding outside the residence and a deceased man inside. The injured man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Based on the investigation, police say the shooting stemmed from "ongoing issues" between the residents in the home. The injured party, identified as 67-year-old Ranald Chardoul, has claimed self-defense, and at the time of this writing, no charges have been filed.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old David Draper.
