1 dead in shooting on Pueblo's east side
One man is dead after an apparent shooting on Pueblo's east side early Tuesday morning.
The victim was found just before 4 a.m. in the area of East 11th Street and North Iola Avenue.
"We got a call, somebody discovered a deceased male in the street," said Capt. Kenny Rider with the Pueblo Police Department. "... Preliminary investigation has shown that there was some sort of disturbance that took place here about 2 o'clock a.m., and there was an altercation between two sets of people in two different vehicles."
One of the vehicles was a black car and the other was a white truck, Rider said.
"During that disturbance, there was one pop that was heard. We don't know exactly if that was a gunshot at this point in time, but we are still investigating that."
Rider said it does appear the man died from a gunshot wound, though an autopsy will still be needed to officially rule on cause of death.
Investigators are now trying to identify the victim.
"Once they do that, they can kind of go from there. Figure out maybe what he was doing prior to this event. Talk to the neighbors here, do a neighborhood canvas, and start looking at the evidence and developing a suspect," Rider said.
There is currently no suspect description outside the two cars.
Anyone with information that can help in the case is asked to call the Pueblo Police Department or contact Pueblo Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP. Crime Stoppers calls can be made anonymously.
