Richie Cozzolino joined the KKTV 11 Sports team in September of 2019. Check him out behind the anchor desk on the weekends, or reporting in the field during the week!
Richie (whose real name is Riccardo) comes to Southern Colorado after a stint on the Western Slope, reporting and anchoring sports for KREX 5 in Grand Junction, CO. In that time, Richie covered everything from the JUCO World Series and the X Games in Aspen...as well as Colorado Mesa athletics and the Grand Junction Rockies. In 2018, he reported on CMU baseball as the team marched to a Division II national title appearance. He's interviewed everyone from local high school athletes to Olympic gold medalists. Prior to his sports broadcasting career, Richie worked behind the scenes as a news producer for WOOD-TV8 in Grand Rapids, MI and WILX-TV in Lansing, MI.
Richie comes to Colorado from St. Clair Shores, Michigan! Originally from the Detroit area, he would be happy to discuss the futility of his Detroit sports fandom anytime. Richie went to Michigan State University, studying electronic journalism while covering Spartan football. He has a brother and a sister and is likely stuffing his face with his mom's delicious Italian food when he visits home.
As for his unending passion for sports? Richie couldn't tell you where it comes from...definitely not from his athletic ability. Richie played soccer and basketball growing up. His three years on the JV tennis team at the University of Detroit Jesuit is Richie's greatest athletic achievement. There were no cuts. But to Richie, there's nothing better than a packed football stadium or baseball field under the lights.
When he's not on the Southern Colorado sports beat, you can find Richie him hiking, skiing, and playing pick-up football with his friends. Richie's sports bucket list involves visiting as many Division 1 football stadiums as possible! And a Detroit Lions playoff win. But he's not holding his breath on the second one.
