2 teens injured in apparent accidental shooting outside La Junta

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two boys were injured in what law enforcement is describing as an accidental shooting Saturday night.
The Otero County Sheriff’s Office and La Junta Police Department were both called to a McDonald’s in La Junta just before 8 p.m. on a reported shooting. Once on scene, the responding deputies and police officers determined the shooting had actually happened about a mile away at Otero County Road 27 and Hillside Road.
The sheriff’s office announced Sunday morning that investigators had determined the shooting was an accident, though it didn’t elaborate further. The victims were identified as minors, both teens. The sheriff’s office said their injuries were not life-threatening.
The incident still remains under investigation Sunday, Otero County Sheriff’s Office added.
In addition to Otero County and La Junta law enforcement, the Rocky Ford and Colorado Springs police departments and the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
