FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - A pedestrian is dead following a crash near I-25 and South Academy Boulevard Thursday night.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area of South Academy at I-25 before 10 p.m. Thursday while two lanes of eastbound South Academy were shut down.

Friday, Fountain police said a man wearing dark-colored clothing was attempting to cross the roadway outside of a crosswalk where there was no lighting when he was struck by a vehicle going east on South Academy Boulevard. The man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and police said that while they were still on scene, they were notified that he had succumbed to those injuries. The pedestrian has not yet been identified.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol are being considered as factors in the crash. They did not say whether or not the driver was facing charges related to the crash.
