EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) -Valerie Douglas and her husband lost thousands of dollars worth of materials they use to make a living in a fire near Falcon Highway on Friday. Their equipment was all kept in the shop on their property, which burned to the ground. She says her barn also burned down. Still, she says it’s a miracle her home remains standing.

“It was God. God put his hand around us here and saved our homes,” said Douglas. “It came so close it melted things on our porch, our gutters were melted. We are blessed, that’s all I can say.”

Burn marks circle her house, the fire barely missing a big propane tank. The fire also reached just feet away from her neighbors houses. She believes firefighters’ quick response helped save everyone’s homes.

“It was amazing they did a great job,” said Douglas. We had so many of the different fire departments come in from all over here because you can’t just hook up to a hydrant out here.”

Douglas’s sister created a GoFundMe page to help with costs of everything lost in the fire.
